M.M Coker And Sons is a family workshop on Kololi Road that also works on the road. If your car won't start in Bijilo, is overheating on the Bertil Harding Highway, or needs its brakes looked at before a trip up-country, we load the tools and come to you.
Open Monday to Saturday, 8am–6pm. Sunday call-outs by arrangement.
Services
What we fix
Most of the work is ordinary and unglamorous: a starter that won't turn, a belt that squeals, an air-con that blows warm air by noon. We do it at the workshop on Kololi Rd, or wherever the car has stopped.
Brakes & suspension
Pads, discs, drums, brake fluid, master cylinders, shocks, bushes and ball joints. Brake work is the one job we won't put off to the next day.
Battery & electrical
Jump starts, new batteries fitted on the spot, alternators, starters, wiring faults, lights, wipers and window motors. Most no-start calls are solved in under an hour.
Air-conditioning
Regas, leak testing, compressor and condenser replacement. In Gambian heat this is the repair people actually feel, so we keep R134a and R12 fittings on the van.
Tyres & roadside
Puncture repair, wheel changes, balancing and alignment checks. Flat on the highway or a wheel that won't come off in the sand — call and we'll come out.
Servicing & pre-trip checks
Oil and filter, plugs, belts, fluids, full once-over before a long drive to Basse, Cassamance or Dakar. We'll write down what we found and what can wait.
The workshop
Two generations on Kololi Road
M.M Coker started repairing cars in Serekunda in 1998, working out of a rented bay off Kololi Road with a hand-cranked jack and a borrowed set of spanners. Word travelled the way it does here — a neighbour's taxi, then a hotel's shuttle van, then a whole street of family cars.
His sons grew up in that bay and run it now. The workshop has grown to three bays, a proper compressor, a diagnostic reader and a van that goes out on call-outs, but the way we work hasn't changed much: look at the car first, explain what's wrong in plain language, and give a price before the spanner comes out.
We work on what people actually drive around here — Toyota Corollas and Hiluxes, Nissan Sunnys, Mercedes 190s and 124s still going strong, Kia and Hyundai saloons, the occasional Land Cruiser that has earned its keep. Parts we can't source locally we'll tell you honestly, and we'll say when a repair isn't worth the money.

Stuck somewhere?
Ring the number and describe where the car is and what it's doing — noise, smoke, warning light, whether it turns over at all. If it's something we can sort at the roadside we'll come out with the van. If it needs the workshop, we'll arrange recovery and get it in the same day where we can.
Usual call-out area: Serekunda, Kanifing, Kololi, Bijilo, Fajara, Bakau, Kotu, Latrikunda, Serrekunda Market and the Kombo coast road. Further afield by arrangement.

Coming from Serekunda Market, head west along Kololi Road past the junction at Kairaba Avenue. We're on the left, a low blue-grey building with three open bays and cars parked nose-in. If you reach the Kololi turn-off you've gone too far — turn around and we're the second gate back.
